Between submitting the Pre Design Package and the Final Design Package, the whole pod underwent many changes in order to come up with a design that is optimized and fits all requirements as stated by SpaceX for the competition. The initial design had the pod sub systems like the braking and stability module as a separate assembly outside the capsule. With these design iterations, in order to get the lowest drag coefficient at high speeds, we chose to have all sub modules in side the capsule itself. These images show the different designs we came up with, how we iterated them on the basis of CFD simulations done using ANSYS and then redesigning them using Autodesk Fusion 360.
