Braking System

We designed the Primary and Secondary braking mechanism both which are based on a simple linear actuation mechanism. The only difference in the mechanism was the end assembly. They were of two types - one on Friction basis, the other on an Eddy Current braking method.

In order to make this system effective, five braking pairs were designed to be added on either side of the rail track. The Eddy Current based and the Friction ones were added linearly along the track in an alternate fashion. The design very well took into account the tolerances which were needed to be maintained by the braking arms near the track section. It required many iterations, but was eventually achieved. This whole assembly as the other sub systems was designed to be cut from an aluminum sheet and welded together to ease out the complete manufacturing process.
